Adults- many of you complain or treat teens as if you are better than them in many ways. The truth is, teens are just as good as you adults. Calling teens names or just simply not listening to them, has been a constant action around the world, and you might not even know you do it! Events one afternoon illustrate one way of how vulnerable we have become to thinking the worst of each other.
There were a few minutes until an eighteen year old teeneger needed to be at school. As the teenager was driving and came to a stop, he noticed a couple of kids waiting to cross the road. So the teenager remained stopped and gave a signal to the kids, to walk through. Behind the teenager was a middle-aged man. He honked and yelled constantly to the teenager, like the Hulk when he got insane. Then a loud sound came.
The old man screamed, “Learn how to drive!”. The teenager was only stopped to help those little kids cross the road. The thought of teenagers being bad and lousy, has been over the top and needs to be stopped. Many of you might think teens really are lousy, but is it something different? Is it just adultism?
A thirteen year old girl named Jillian Yim was interviewed by Lorena Ceno. Jillian said that adults think teens are bad and they are not as mature as adults. Jillian also thinks that adults purposely treat teens this way, so that teens will feel less important and make the teen stop talking to the adult.
Another thirteen year old girl named Fardosa imputed that some adults do treat teens bad on purpose because that is the way the adult simply is. She quoted,” Some adults just think they are the mature ones automatically, and don’t know how they treat teens badly”.
These actions by adults cause teens to make them feel bad about themselves and also feel that they are not as good as the adults would want them to be. Adults should pay attention to thinks and the ways they treat teens. Not only do adults treat teens with lower respect as adults would treat other adults, but they treat teens as if they are little kids. This is something called adultism, where the adult always takes control. Teens should have the ability to act more grown up because they will soon be adults.
Age should not matter whether or not to determine that adults are more superior (better) than teens in many ways.
This is so true, I like the details
