The bell rings and a stampede of kids comes out through all the doors in the 8th grade pod at Premier Charter School. Within seconds, the lockers across from Mrs.Malley’s room are filled with girls. It is easy to notice the difficulties they are having. Whether they have top or bottom lockers, middle schoolers are having a strenuous or tough time simply trying to get their supplies for the day. However, students with bottom lockers face bigger challenges.
Half of them have bottom lockers and they are waiting for others to leave their lockers for them to be able to open theirs. They have to wait with their binders and books in their arms and there are also people trying to walk through that hallway which makes it harder. Once they finally get to open their lockers, they face the possibility of getting something dropped on them. It is also tiring having to kneel down everyday. This can even result in a detention if they are late to class. It is like Katniss, all the odds are against them.
An 8th grade student, named Zanieb Al-Hanoosh, has a bottom locker. She says that she totally agrees, all the odds are against her. “The first two years,” stated Zanieb,” I had top lockers and it was so much easier. But the bottom locker is just awful. The girl on top keeps dropping nearly everything she carries on me and the girls beside me keep their locker doors wide open and that makes it really hard to open my mine. Then, this all results in me being often late to class.”
These things really affect students. They already have enough pressure, and dealing with locker problems is something they should not have to worry about. That is why the faculty at Premier Charter School should find a way to make it easier for students to get their things for class. If this is not considered, then many more kids, future generations, will have deal with this problem.
I like how you express that the top lockers have issues too, but you manage to focus it on the bottom lockers. Also, the analogy goes great with the story!
