The eighth grade students at Premier Charter School were having a normal day on September 17, getting ready to learn more about journalism. Suddenly the administrator of the school, Kenneth Doyle, entered the class. With a grim expression on his face he started to announce a meeting he had with the faculty. “Unfortunately,” Doyle cleared his throat,”Due to some budget cuts, we will have to cancel the Six Flags field trip and the Graduation Ceremony.” Immediately, the students started to panic and murmur among themselves. The Six Flags trip and Graduation was a tradition a midst the students. Many of them wait all year just for these events. To take it away, almost seemed sacrilegious.
Despite this, a student called out,”April Fools!” Others smiled hesitantly, wondering as well as well if this was all a joke. Doyle shook his head regretfully,”You can still schedule trips with your friends and claim your diploma.” Soon, the class started to raise their hands with questions in mind. He answered all of them truthfully, but nothing could have brought the students’ moods up. They found out the teachers were getting a raise because of a strike so the school couldn't afford the venue the ceremony took place at. They couldn't fund raise money for it either, since it could interfere with the other fundraisers going at the school.
Doyle soon left to deliver the news to another class and they resumed with the lesson. The eighth graders could do nothing to reverse what just happened.
