Video games and violence

A lot of people play video games, there’s no question about it. Millions of consoles and video games are sold world-wide. Some may think playing violent video games are harmful. While many may think violent video games are harmful they have actually impacted our society positively.
According to Evan Dushevsky’s article in TechHive, crime has decreased in our nation as the number of video games has continuously increased the viscera factor. Economist Steven Levitt says” -those who are most likely to commit violent acts- are kept busy in front of their TVs and computers for hours on end, they will be too busy to go out into the streets and do real violent things.”  This pretty much shows how video games are impacting our society positively.
An expert has said that “The state has not produced substantial evidence that violent video games cause psychological or neurological harm to minors.” Secret Service reports found that violence stems from aggression and stress rather than just simply playing video games.  In fact, researchers found that playing video games have a calming effect on youth with attention deficit symptoms along with a reduction in aggressive behavior. The game the students play at St.Ann aren’t so bad either. The game is completely voluntary and requires the students to think. Basically if the students’ didn’t want to play the game, they aren’t forced to do so.  The game forces the kids to think to survive so they’re not just mindlessly ‘killing’ each other.
However, other may think differently. Others might think video games are harmful because it would raise aggression in our youths. Researchers actually have found no link between an  increase in aggressive behavior when playing violent video games.
To conclude  video games are positively impacting our society by keeping potential criminals “busy”. There hasn’t been any research shown that video games actually causes people to be or do violent things.
