I believe that video games do not cause harmful violence such as shootings because they are just another type of entertainment. People have many different opinions and different tastes in their favorite type of entertainment. Taking away video game violence would be like taking away movies for people who play these games.
Games like GTA do not cause violence because whether we have them or not, shooting and other types of violence will still occur. Taking away these games would be like taking away internet or tv for some people. Many people play games for stress relief or just a break. Taking away these games might have a small positive affect (Which i doubt), but it will definitely have a huge negative impact on the US.
These games do not have a negative effect on people because videogames are a stress relief or break for many people. 183 people in the US play videogames and 3 BILLION hours playing them as a planet (Ted.com). If video games did cause violence, there would be way more of it and not just in the US.
While many people say that violent video games cause pleasure in the ability to cause pain in others (Dave Grossman and Gloria DeGaetano, Stop Teaching Our Kids to Kill: A Call to Action against TV, Movie & Video Game Violence, 1999) , this is not true because videogames are just a stress relief place for many and or one of our many daily used types of entertainment.
