I am certain you remember playing phone games, computer games, and even video games in the past. Some of you even play these games now. A lot of these games, especially video games have simulated violence, that all add to the fun, right? Apparently, some anti-video gamers are worried that these violent video games will cause harm to the ‘psychological development’ or mind development of gamers. What these very concerned individuals don’t understand is that it is better to take out your anger or violence on playing video games then on a wall or some innocent person. Experts also say that simulated, violent video games, have no connection to gamers mind. Video games actually have many positive benefits.
Think about all the hours that you have spent playing video games, computer games, or phone games. Now let’s say that entire time you were just sitting around, bored. You would have been more likely to do something that would have been harmful. This supports what many experts say, that when criminals are playing video games, they’re occupied. “According to Levitt, potential criminals aren't committing crimes because they are spending so much time playing violent video games” (Dashevsky, 2013, p.1). All the more reason to make more video games to reduce the crime rate all over the country and all over the world.
“A new generation of online games don't just provide entertainment-they help scientists solve puzzles involving genes, conservation and the universe”(Mohammadi, 2014, p.1). This means that some games that you currently play including video games could be helping finding cures or treatment for mysterious diseases and illnesses. Kind of blows your mind when you think about all the hours you were playing videogames, and your mom or dad came in to tell you were wasting time, to go do your chores, and… Anyways, this means that you could help many more people than you think when you are playing video games.
Some people think that children and adults who play violent video games are more likely to commit crime or start a school shooting or some devastation of the sort. Actually there are studies that show that aggressive people themselves are the ones who choose to do these things (Carey, 2013, p.1) It is not the video games so don't blame the video games. These games don't make anyone more or less likely to do these things.
Violent video games are beneficial to gamers in an overwhelming amount of ways. These benefits cannot be ignored and can prove that violent video games aren't harmful for people of any age. Next time someone tells you that violent video games are “bad”, you can tell them why they might be wrong, I rest my case.
